BBC micro:bit Shakespeare Week Challenge

It's Shakespeare Week!  I grew up not far from William Shakespeare's home in Stratford-upon-Avon. My 10 year old son is interested in Shakespeare so I wondered, could we do a tech project themed around the bard.

We've been doing lots of stuff with the BBC micro:bit recently (projects coming soon!) and my 10 year old gets on well with it. Like Shakespeare the micro:bit is from the UK. So I thought we'd come up with a suitable project. Here's what we came up with ...

micro Shakespeare Code off

This challenge is best done in a pair or group. The idea is to code a version of a Shakespeare play for the micro:bit and then have the other person or people guess which play it is.

Here are our attempts to get you started.

BBC micro:bit Shakespeare 1

You can view and download the code at: Shakespeare 1

BBC micro:bit Shakespeare 2

You can view and download the code at: Shakespeare 2

You'll need sound for this one. Connect a tone buzzer, speaker or headphones to the micro:bit.

BBC micro:bit Shakespeare 3

You can view and download the code at: Shakespeare 3

The Challenge

We're sure you can do better! Please share what you or your children or pupils come up with us on Twitter @techagekids #ShakespeareWeek.

This year's Shakespeare Week has a music theme. How about coding up some Elizabethan music for the micro:bit too?
