Kindle FreeTime Unlimited Gets New Content

Kindle Fire HD 7", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special OffersAmazon have issued a press release about their Kindle FreeTime Unlimited subscription service for kids. The service has been adding content since it launched: over 1000 titles in total including eBooks, apps and videos that are suitable for children aged 3-8.

The Kindle FreeTime Unlimited app runs on the Kindle Fire tablet and offers access to this library of content for a monthly subscription fee. This is currently $6.99 per family (or $2.99 per child) for Prime subscribers or $9.99 per family (or $4.99 per child) for non-Prime subscribers.

This service makes so much sense for kids. It means they have lots of different books to read and can try out different apps to see what they are interested in. It gives kids freedom while making sure they are only choosing appropriate content.

The apps also disable in-app purchases, social media and advertising which gives a kid-friendly experience.

Some of the newer titles to be added to the package include:
  • Disney's Where's My Mickey which is a brand new app launching this week.
  • LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 from Warner (Very exciting, but these games are usually rated for an older audience. Perhaps Amazon are extending the age range which would be a good thing.)
  • Curious George at the Zoo
You can view the current selection of Kindle FreeTime Unlimited titles.

Amazon have plans in place to release further content throughout the year including Monsters University.
