Happy 30th Birthday World Wide Web

Today marks 30 years of the existence of the World Wide Web. I can just about remember a world without the internet, but my children can't. The internet connects information and people around the world and has completely transformed how we live, work and play.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee is the inventor of the World Wide Web and his desire of the internet was that "This is for Everyone".

The internet is an amazing place full of information and opportunity for innovation. Children today can just say "Hey Siri" or "OK Google" to access the information they want. They can also become creators of information on the internet. Just think of all the websites, photos and videos you can access via the internet - many of which are created by children and teens.

Here are some ways children and teens can learn the skills creators of information on the internet:

As digital parents we have a duty of care to help our children to use the internet in a safe way. They need to understand how to find the information they want and what is appropriate behavior on the internet. By helping children learn these skills, we keep the internet a useful, enjoyable and safe place for everyone to use - just like Sir Tim Berners-Lee wanted.
