Teksta The Robotic Puppy

Robot pets are making a comeback this year. Teksta the Robotic Puppy has been updated from the 90s model (he was known as Tekno in the US.) Teksta has made it onto Hamley's Top 10 toys for Christmas 2013 in the UK.

Teksta will be released in the UK in August and uses state of the art sensors and artificial intelligence programming to create an interactive pet-like experience.

Let's take a look at what the new Teksta can do.

Here's a video that shows Teksta walking and doing backflips.

The robot puppy has eyes that light up in multiple colors and he can bark. His tail wags and his ears move too. The electronic pet will respond to voice, touch and hand gestures which looks like a lot of fun. He or she also comes with a ball and bone to play with.

The puppy also knows what time of day it is and can fall asleep in the evening and wake up in the morning.

Teksta comes in blue or pink (hmm, a little more imagination with the colors please manufacturers!) and is already listed on the Smyths website.

Update: Available to order - Teksta @ Amazon.co.uk

Like so many tech toys he takes 4 AA batteries (not included.) The bone has a battery which is included

There's also a Teksta app which can be used to control the robot's light up eyes, barks and motion, and also to feed him virtual snacks.

Teksta's Facebook info page notes that the robot is "Programmable wirelessly with Apple + Android Tablets" so we should be getting apps for iOS and Android devices which is good news.

There's also a video call mode with other Teksta dogs.

Teksta is getting a UK release in August 2013, we don't know if there will be a Tekno version for the US market.

Teksta is recommended for children aged 5+. My boys would love a pet, but they're not getting the real kind. This is a pet I could definitely live with.
