Hack Linux Laptop for Kids

The Hack Laptop is a new laptop aimed at kids aged 8+ that aims to encourage them to code and customise their computer.

It's a proper ASUS laptop running the Linux operating system with additional educational content running on top. At launch, you get free access to the educational content but it will cost $9.99 per month after an initial trial.

We love the idea of Hack. A lot of modern children become passive consumers of technology rather than learning how it works. Hack encourages kids to get inside their computer and take control.

Hack is a proper computer that can be used to access the web, do homework and play some games. It's not a high-powered computer but it's reasonable and running Linux is a great way to make the most of a computer.

You need to understand that this isn't a Windows laptop and there will be things it can't run. But we've had great success with kids using Linux.

The educational content is story and character-based and draws inspiration from characters from history.

We're often asked to recommend a first laptop for a child aged 8+ and Hack definitely makes it onto our list.
