Find kid tech competitions and challenges for children and families to enter. Competitions and challenges are a great way to motivate kids to get their tech out and make cool stuff.

These are competitions that you can enter at home. Some competitions offer prizes, some are just for fun. Please check entry details for specific requirements and closing dates.

littleBits: Create an Illuminating Invention

littleBits have a Create an Illuminating Invention challenge running until March 31st, 2017 at 11:59pm ET.

(Ooh, we love things that light up, remember when we made a light up Minecraft sword with littlebits?)

Raspberry Pi Pioneers: Make Us Laugh

Raspberry Pi Pioneers: Make Us Laugh is a competition for 12-15 year olds to make something funny with tech. Entries are due by Wednesday 22 MARCH 2017. Each team needs a mentor over the age of 18.

BAFTA YGD Games Awards

The BAFTA Young Game Designers (YGD) Games Awards are for 10-18 year olds in the UK. There are two competition categories: the Game Maker Award for actually making a game and the Game Concept Award for designing a game.

There are lots of options for how games are created but there are some rules to follow so make sure you check carefully.

The deadline for entries is 17.00 (5pm) on Wednesday 3 May 2017.

Instructables Contests

Instructables run regular contests with cool themes and some really great prizes. These contests aren't usually designed for children but minors are able to enter with parental permission. Some of them make great family challenges to work on together. Check the Instructables Contests page for details of current contests and deadlines. Note that some contests and prizes may not be suitable for children.

Mover Kit Light Painting Challenge

Technology Will Save Us, the makers of Mover Kit has set a challenge to make a light painting using any source of light. A Mover, torch, mobile flashlight or any other light source. Take long exposure photos in a dark place and submit your entry. One entry a week will win a small prize.

Wonder Workshop: Invent a Robot Accessory

In this Design Thinking challenge from Wonder Workshop kids need to invent a new accessory for Dash & Dot. Kids can start from a Dash & Dot coloring page or a blank sheet. 15 winners will be selected for a community vote.
The competition is open to 4-14 year olds and closes on January 31, 2017 at 11:59pm PST.

Bloxels: Kids as Video Game Makers 2017

Kids as Video Game Makers 2017 or KVGM17 is a competition from Bloxels. Kids aged 6-14 can enter. Entries are due by Friday, February 17th, 2017 at 11:59pm PST.
