In record mode you press the button to record a few seconds of audio, and in play mode the same button plays the recording.

My kids have has loads of fun playing with this device. So we came up with an access door on the back of the head (which will mean we can put more electronics in in future) and a hole for his mouth that allows a finger in to press the button. The buzzing of the 3D printer is a familiar noise in our house. He's used to requesting models from Thingiverse or getting his Mum or Dad to create something. (I'll share more of our 3D printing projects in future.)

We have also created 3D prints from his 2D drawings. But until now he hadn't designed a proper 3D model himself. For this project, I had to help him use the tool, but he decided what the elements would be, where they should go and how big they should be and together we built his first 3D model (and then got his Dad to print it.) He's now got a basic understanding how 3D models can be created for 3D printing. And he has been through the process of making and designing a toy for himself.

{"$t":"TechAgeKids
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/05395601401115005509
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$image":
"media$thumbnail":{"xmlns$media":"http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsXrmN_-18tV5KZ9rg5KkZM91EpfpZK8plQ1XsM-tzY8iBb3h13NeK2wQ1AwuBoYS9ZO95nY9jReJ3hyphenhyphenRWGebH9N27ONDk64MUIusXZF6uEVq8GZ5hI2ThELBDXpOWqpkR8dG0X7eW9hA/s72-c/3d-printed-greek-temple.png
{"$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15639169850959392.post-2491098194072347151
$t":"2013-04-21T08:28:00.000-04:00
$t":"2013-04-27T08:49:07.261-04:00
"$t":"My First Robot
html","$t":"

Each week my four year old gets to choose a book to borrow from the school library. This week he chose the book Mad Machines and Dotty Devices - Mind Boggling Inventions! It's a cool book of science / craft projects to make. He decided that he wanted to make the robot that's in the book. So this week we saved boxes and cardboard tubes until we had time to make the robot on Sunday.

We got out the kitchen foil, scissors and sticky tape and got to work.
