Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Sets Available to Pre-Order

Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Endor Chase PlaysetThere's a big range of Telepods sets for the launch of Angry Birds Star Wars II app which is out in September 2013. The sets are available to pre-order with Amazon giving a release date of August 26th. The sets include characters that can be teleported into the app and also physical accessories that allow the figures to be played with in the real world.

For those of you who are familiar with other physical / virtual toys like Disney Infinity and Skylanders, it's important to note that there isn't a big expensive portal-type device to buy for Angry Birds Star Wars. Instead the sets include a small plastic Telepod base which is placed over the camera on an iPad or Android tablet. The figures are then placed on top of the Telepod base. You also need to purchase the app.

Let's take a look at the initial wave of sets in more detail.

There are various sets that include one or more characters plus other related accessories. The big Star Destroyer set has ten characters whereas the other sets have a lot fewer. Some figures are exclusive to particular sets so you'll need to consider whether your child has favorites.

The sets are clearly designed to enable physical play as well as working with the app.

The Star Destroyer set is a big set which includes 10 characters. This one is likely to be popular on kids holiday gift lists.

As well as the characters and telepods base you get a stackable star destroyer and a catapult for firing the characters at it. So there's game play outside the app as well as lots of characters to play with in-game.

Then there are two sets that have pull-back launchers for real-world play as well as two characters that can also be used with the app:

Then there are three smaller sets which include a catapult style launcher and two characters:

There's also a character pack which is focused on in-app play and includes 6 figures and a Telepods base without additional accessories.

I expect that this will be a first purchase for many as it's at a price that kids will be able to save up their pocket money for rather than having to wait for a birthday or Christmas gift.

There will also be additional smaller sets that kids can purchase to build up their collection of Angry Birds Star Wars II characters.

I'm expecting this range to be a big success. When we were looking for a birthday gift for one of my younger son's friends recently my son spotted these sets online and wanted to get one for his friend. And we would have done if they had been released at the time.
