Note that the ESRB ratings are still pending for most of these titles so I've had to go on what I expect from these titles at this point based on announced game content and previous titles in a series.
(I'll be adding new titles to this post.)
- Skylanders Swap Force is the lastest update to the massively popular Skylanders franchise. Swap Force will be available for XBox One. Previous Skylanders games have had an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+ and are popular with boys in particular.
Kinect Sports: Rivals @Amazon
This is the sports game title to show off the features of the new XBox One updated Kinect sensor. In-game versions of players get to try out sports including climbing, soccer and bowling.
This looks like a good family-friendly game that gets everyone competing, and also gets parents and kids up off the sofa. Great when you have visitors and want something fun for everyone to join in with.
It's likely to get a rating of Everyone or Everyone 10+.
- Minecraft for XBox One has been announced. Minecraft is a world-building game that's very popular with tween and teen boys particularly. The XBox 360 version is already out and has a 10+ rating.
For XBox One there will be bigger worlds due to the improved hardware on the new machine.
A Zoo building game for the XBox One. Previous games in the franchise have had a rating of Everyone (or Everyone 10+ for some) so we expect this title to be child-friendly.
This is a kids title where the updated graphics for the XBox One should really make a difference.
Amazon lists a release date in 2014 so we might have to wait a while for this one.
Just Dance 2014 @Amazon
The upcoming installment of the Just Dance series is coming out for XBox One. This is a dance game featuring popular songs like PSY Gentlemen and One Direction Kiss You.
On XBox One there will be support for up to 6 dancers and at time with some songs having different moves for each of the 6 dancers.
A good one for when kids, especially girls, have friends round to visit, or to tire them out before a sleepover.
- Another title that's worth a mention is Project Spark. This is a new title so we don't yet have an age rating. It's a world and game building title that uses voice and Smart Glass controls.
You can add intelligence to objects in the game by assigning commands to their 'brains'. This looks like an very interesting step into game creation and programming. I do hope the title is suitable for kids.
- Fantasia is a new dance title which is more freeform than the choreography titles we're used to.
You'll still have cues to meet and need to move in time for the music but the game claims to be more creative and less prescriptive that previous dance titles. It reminds me of modern dance interpretations of music.
Kingdom Hearts III @Amazon
A new addition to the popular Kingdom Hearts franchise which mixes Japanese style graphics, adventure gaming and well known Disney characters.
It sounds like it shouldn't work, but the previous games did very well. The previous editions had ratings of Everyone and Everyone 10+ so this should be another title that's suitable for children.
Note that we're still waiting for news on Disney Infinity for XBox One. Disney Infinity is one of the big children's video game launches for 2013 so we're hoping to see it.
