There are now three new paid subscription channels for children on YouTube from DHX Media.
These channels offer well known titles without advertising in several countries including the US and UK. This looks like a good move. My kids watch a lot of stuff on YouTube because it's convenient. I'm happy to pay for good ad-free content when it's something the kids really want to watch. (We love independently made videos too though and understand that they need to be ad-supported at the moment - the kids just have to be more closely supervised when watching.)
For preschoolers there's DHX Junior which will include programs like Te Busy World of Richard Scarry and Madeline.
For bigger kids there's DHX Kids which will show Sabrina, Sherlock Holmes and in the US initially, Horseland and Mudpit.
Then there's DHX Retro which looks like excellent family viewing for parents and kids to share. I'm afraid I inflict a lot of my childhood favorites on my own kids! DHX Retro will shows include Inspector Gadget and Heathcliff.
The channels offer a two week free trial with monthly and yearly subscription options.
